In some places drag families grow like weeds. Up and coming kings and queens change their name, take up a veteran’s last name, and become a part of the pack. Some families spread like the plague, and in some weird “Village of the Damned” way they all end up looking like each other. Awkward. With the queens here, you can usually tell who is part of which family because of the way they paint. The same can be said with some of the kings. Those who have teamed up often have similar facial hair and hairstyles. In my developing drag family I encourage my spawn (they love it when I call them that) to be individuals. I don’t want them to be me, I want them to be the best “thems” they can be. Though it does makes me chuckle when one or both of them come up with a costume that is reminiscent of something I do or have done, without any prompting on my part. Right now, both kings I’m mentoring have grown by leaps and bounds just in the last few months. Because of that, I wanted to recognize both of them and let the world know to watch out for these two entertainers who have the potential to do amazing things!
